Why replace the diesel particulate filter?
When the engine of a diesel car is running, the exhaust gas from combustion passes through the DPF filter, where tiny particles are trapped and larger gas molecules are emitted. Suppose the engine is running poorly, such as through incomplete combustion. In that case, a large amount of carbon will be deposited in the DPF filter and block the intake and exhaust holes, thereby reducing the filtration efficiency and affecting the engine performance. Eventually, the DPF filter needs to be replaced.

Diesel Particulate filter (DPF) is a device installed in the exhaust system of diesel vehicles to reduce particulate matter (PM) in the exhaust by filtering. DPF captures particles through a mixture of surface and internal filtration devices, such as diffusion precipitation, inertial precipitation or linear interception, which can effectively purify 70% to 90% of the particles in the exhaust, and is one of the most effective and direct methods for purifying diesel particulate matter, which has been commercialized internationally. Structure

 

Diesel particulate filter (DPF) structure 
1. Shell:
 Material: usually made of stainless steel, with good high temperature and corrosion resistance. 
Function: Protect internal components from external mechanical damage and environmental impacts.
 2. Honeycomb ceramic carrier:
 Material: Common carrier materials include Cordierite, Silicon Carbide and Aluminum Titanate.
 Structure: The carrier is designed as a honeycomb structure, the channel is open at one end and blocked at the other end, forming a checkerboard surface design. 
Function: When the exhaust gas passes through the porous wall, the particles are trapped on the wall surface, so as to achieve filtration.
 3. Catalytic coating: 
Material: usually contains precious metals (such as platinum Pt, palladium Pd, rhodium Rh) and some auxiliary materials (such as aluminum oxide, cerium dioxide).
 Function: The catalytic coating can reduce the ignition temperature of particles, promote the oxidation combustion of particles, and improve the regeneration efficiency.

DPF INTRODUCTION

DPF is the only option to satisfy particle number emissions. Common DPF support materials are ceramics, aluminum titanate and silicon carbide. The choice of carrier material is mainly based on the use of DPF and regeneration strategy, including carbon back pressure, filtration efficiency, regeneration temperature, time and so on. DOC INTRODUCTION
DOC is one of the most important catalysts for diesel engine reprocessing. Its main function is to oxidize the unburned hydrocarbons (HC) in the engine and the carbon monoxide (CO) produced during combustion into harmless water and carbon dioxide. At the same time, it can also convert NO into NO2 for passive regeneration of downstream catalyst particle trap (CDPF) and improve NOx conversion efficiency of SCR. Depending on the emission requirements, it is sometimes necessary to integrate multiple functions on DOC, which also brings great challenges to the design of DOC. Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) installation position 
1. Diesel vehicle installation position DPF is usually installed in the rear of the exhaust system, behind the turbocharger or under the chassis. 
 High temperature regeneration requirements: DPF needs to be periodically regenerated at high temperature (active or passive), away from the engine to avoid thermal shock, but need to retain sufficient temperature (above 250°C). 
Spatial layout: The DPF of heavy diesel vehicles (such as trucks) is often integrated in the chassis exhaust road, while light vehicles (such as passenger cars) may be arranged near the engine compartment. 
2. Integrated design Installation
 DPF+SCR integration: Some models combine DPF and SCR catalytic converters into one module (such as Ford EcoBlue diesel engine) to reduce pipeline length.
